resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo excluded the position of Presidential spokesperson from his Cabinet announcement on Sunday, as he himself plans to fill the position.
Former deputy of Jokowi's transition team, Andi Widjajanto, noted that Jokowi would retain his direct communication style similar to how he talked to the press and the public when he was Jakarta governor.
'The President will not need a spokesperson as he plans to do that himself. For press purposes, he will address the media directly or through his ministers,' Andi said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.
Previous president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono employed three different spokespeople during his 10-year rule, whose job it was to convey presidential statements to the press.
Yudhoyono had a domestic affairs spokesperson, as well as a foreign affairs spokesperson during the first five years of his rule from 2004 to 2009, which were Andi Mallarangeng and Dino Patti Djalal respectively.
Julian Aldrin Pasha was Yudhoyono's spokesperson from 2009 until the end of his rule in October 2014.
Aside from the spokesperson position, the position of Cabinet secretary has also been removed from Jokowi's Cabinet, as it will be merged with the state secretary's duties. (dyl)
