ogyakarta-based Gadjah Mada University political observer Arie Sudjito hopes President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla will not hesitate to reshuffle their Working Cabinet in the event that its members underperform.
He made the statement in response to the Cabinet's announcement conducted by Jokowi and Kalla on Sunday afternooon.
He also hoped that Jokowi and Kalla would set targets for their ministers during their first 100 days to assess their performance.
'At the least, the ministers must make a breakthrough during their first 100 days. It's Jokowi's responsibility to urge them to make this happen,' he said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said Jokowi and Kalla were very brave because in their Working Cabinet, they had selected a large number of new faces.
'[Choosing new faces] is a serious challenge. Jokowi's Working Cabinet really has to work,' he said.
Several new faces in Jokowi's Working Cabinet are Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti, Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Yohana Susana Yembise, Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya and Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Indroyono Susilo.
