F

ive endangered blue whales became stranded on a beach in Watodiri village'€™s Waienga Bay in Ile Ape district, Lembata Island regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Oct. 18.

As of Tuesday, rescuers were still struggling to save the last whale trapped in the bay.

'€œI'€™m still aboard a boat in the bay together with a joint team from the Indonesian Navy, a number of NGOs, the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry and local fishermen, making further efforts to drive the last blue whale out to the open sea,'€ Lembata Regency Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office head Ananthasius Aur Amuntoda said on Tuesday.

A few days ago, the joint team was able to steer three of the whales out toward the open sea. Another male whale was found dead on Oct. 23.
