Two bodies found in Malacca Strait

L

ocal fishermen found the bodies of a man and woman drifting in the Malacca Strait, in waters between Panipahan and Jemur Island, in Rokan Hilir regency, Riau, over the weekend.

Panipahan community health clinic head Netty Juliana said that based on an identity card and driving license found on the body of the male victim, he was identified as Siwa Kumar, 28, from Medan, North Sumatra, while the identity of the female victim remained unclear.

Rokan Hilir Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Tonny Hermawan said Siwa'€™s parents collected their son'€™s body early on Tuesday. Tonny believed Siwa was the victim of a boating accident and that his body had been carried by waves to waters off Jemur Island, Indonesia'€™s outermost island in the Malacca Strait.

'€œI have ordered the Rokan Hilir Water Police Unit to check for information on the accident at the Indonesian National Police representative office in Malaysia,'€ added Tonny.
