he Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has launched an Android-based mobile application that warns users of impending natural disasters and allows them to share disaster-related information.
The app, called Mass Rapid Assessment (MRA), was launched during a seminar on IT-Telekom and people's disaster preparedness and resilience in South Jakarta on Thursday.
The app was aimed at boosting preparedness for disasters and improving post-disaster relief, PMI's head of disaster relief, Sumarsono, said at the opening of the seminar. 'The mobile app facilitates the sharing of information on disasters occurring in users' areas,' he said.
As a country located in the Ring of Fire, Indonesia was familiar with narutural disasters. 'Indonesia is like a convenience store of natural disasters. Thus, sharing any information related to disasters is essential and important to raise awareness. Thanks to today's advanced technology, mobile apps can be used to boost efforts,' said Sumarsono.
