he rupiah interbank trade in Jakarta weakened by 33 points to Rp 12,115 against the US dollar from an earlier position of Rp 12,082 on Friday.
"The dollar has appreciated due to the US economic growth rate in the third quarter, thereby forcing investors to move their assets in US currency," Monex Investindo Futures chief researcher Ariston Tjendra said as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said that the US trade department had disclosed that the gross domestic product in the third quarter had increased by 3.5 percent, up from an earlier projection of only 3 percent.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Composite Index strengthened by 17.24 points to 5,076 on Friday morning in line with bullish stock exchange movement in Asia.
The most liquid LQ-45 index also rose 4.32 points to 864, Antara news agency reported.
"Global stock exchange sentiment gave positive support to the local index," an analyst of Woori Korindo Securities Indonesia, Reza Priyambada, said on Friday. (hhr)
