resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo said he held no grudge toward Muhammad Arsyad, a 24-year-old satay meat seller who has been detained by police for allegedly defaming the former Jakarta governor on Facebook.
'I have forgiven him [Arsyad] 100 percent,' he said on Saturday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Jokowi forgave Arsyad after meeting with Arsyad's parents, namely Mursidah and Syafrudin, at the State Palace this afternoon.
Jokowi said he had asked the National Police to suspend Arsyad's detention.
He said that the police would release Arsyad on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Mursidah said that she appreciated Jokowi for forgiving the mistakes committed by her son.
The police arrested Arsyad at his house in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, on Thursday, Oct. 23. Arsyad is suspected of editing Jokowi's face into pornographic pictures and then uploading the pictures onto his Facebook account. The incident occurred sometime in July when Jokowi, then Jakarta governor, was still campaigning ahead of the presidential election.
On Friday afternoon, the police named Arsyad a suspect for violating the Pornography Law and Electronic Information and Transaction (ITE) Law. They have also blocked Arsyad's Facebook account. (alz)
