hirty-seven foreign nationals have been deported from West Nusa Tenggara province over the past 10 months for violating immigration laws, including some married to Indonesians, a local immigration officer says.
"The misuse of social visit visas is the dominant issue with regard to immigration violations," head of the Supervision and Law Enforcement Division of the Mataram Immigration Office Indra Iskandar said as quoted by Antara news agency on Tuesday.
He pointed out that visa violators were mainly from Australia and Malaysia, adding that the number of people deported from the province this year was an increase from the 22 recorded in the previous year.
According to Iskandar, many of the immigration violators were married to Indonesians and did not have proper immigration documents while visiting or staying with their spouses in the country.
"Many of them are married to Indonesian migrant workers from Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara," he said. (hhr)
