RI, NZ to forge investment deal on geothermal

P

resident Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo has offered an investment partnership to New Zealand Prime Minister John Key during the ASEAN Summit in Naypyitaw, Myanmar, regarding the construction of geothermal plants in Indonesia.

'€œThe relationship between Indonesia and New Zealand would be further strengthened if our economic cooperation and investment projects were to be carried out in a concrete manner, such as the planned construction of geothermal plants in Indonesia,'€ Jokowi said at the conference on Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Jokowi said that forging investment cooperation on geothermal plant construction with New Zealand was a good move due to the country'€™s experience in the field of geothermal energy. He also said that Indonesia was willing to assist New Zealand in their efforts to increase investment and clear any hindrances that they might face in the cooperation.

During the bilateral meeting, Key congratulated Jokowi on his election as the seventh president of Indonesia, and accepted the investment-cooperation deal.

The RI-NZ bilateral talks were part of an agenda on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit, which chose the theme of '€œMoving Forward in Unity to a Peaceful and Prosperous Community'€ as the guidelines for the 2014 summit.

Jokowi managed to meet with various leaders of ASEAN countries during the summit including Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Myanmar President U Thein Sein and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

After the ASEAN Summit, Jokowi will continue his overseas trip to Brisbane, Australia for the G20 Summit on Sunday. (dyl/nfo)(+++)
