ive people were killed and two seriously injured in a collision involving four vehicles in the resort area of Puncak near Bogor, West Java, early on Saturday.
All the victims were brought to Ciawi Regional Hospital in Bogor.
Three of the dead, Ricky Pascalis, Robby Sirait and Guntur Silo Siregar, were prospective activists of the Indonesian Legal Aid and Human Rights Association (PBHI) and on the way to a training program in the area. The two other dead were identified as truck driver Dede Wawan and motorcyclist Sohin.
Bogor Police traffic unit head Adj. Comr. Bramanstyo said the two injured victims, identified as Simon Tambunan and Poltak Agustinus Sinaga, were taken to the hospital with severe injuries to their heads, hands and legs.
Bramanstyo said the accident occurred when the driver of a truck traveling at a high speed and carrying iron from Puncak to Bogor city lost control and crashed into the side of a Toyota Avanza multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
The MPV then collided head-on with a Honda Jazz sedan and a motorcyclist heading in the opposite direction.
He added that the collision had occurred on Gadog bridge in Megamendung district. The three dead and two injured were aboard the sedan, which came to a halt a few meters away, while the truck stopped after hitting a grocery store, Bramanstyo said.
'The three vehicles also hit the iron barrier of the bridge,' he added.
He said the vehicles involved in the incident had been taken to the police's traffic accident unit on the Jagorawi toll road, in Ciawi.
PBHI assembly secretary Hendrik Sirait said the sedan was carrying three PBHI cadets and two senior activists on their way to take part in a human rights training program in Puncak.
He said the bodies of Guntur and Ricky would be taken to their hometown in Pekanbaru while Robby's would be taken to his house in Jatinegara, East Jakarta.
'We are still taking care of the bodies so they can be handed over to their families,' he said, adding that the PBHI urged the police to investigate the case thoroughly.
Hendrik said that Simon, who was in a critical condition, would be transferred to Medistra Hospital in Jakarta to undergo further medical care.
