The Law and Human Rights head of the Intellectual Property Rights Directorate General, Ahmad M. Ramli, said that they would set up the LKM (Collective Management Body), which would collect and channel royalties owed to the owners of intellectual property rights.
'We plan to form the LKM at the end of this year. The body will manage the economic rights of the owners and makers of intellectual products,' he said in Jakarta on Monday.
The formation of such a body was aimed at increasing the country's GDP from the intellectual property rights sector to 6 percent from the current 2 percent.
He also said that the government would increase its efforts to combat copyright piracy across the archipelago.
They planned to increase the detention period for violating intellectual property rights from the current four years to 10 years.
Perpetrators would also be fined Rp 4 billion (US$ 327,895).
'We will also detain merchants of fake products for four years,' he said, adding that they would apply sanctions against every mall permitting outlets to sell fake products.
