ewly appointed Attorney General HM Prasetyo has said he is fully aware that his appointment has sparked controversy, especially among rights activists. Activists have suggested that there were indications of transactional politics behind Prasetyo's appointment.
They also suspected that Prasetyo's current status as a NasDem politician would be a mistake for the country's law enforcement.
'We are open to critics, but to think that Pak Surya Paloh would do transactional politics is a mistake. That man has a track record and his own reputation and he wouldn't jeopardize that,' Prasetyo said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
He was referring to NasDem chairman Surya Paloh, who met with President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo right before Prasetyo's inauguration as attorney general.
Prasetyo also shrugged off accusations that his appointment would end up as a problem for the Jokowi administration.
'I will prove it with my work performance. I will go all out in carrying out this duty,' Prasetyo, who served as junior attorney general for general crimes from 2005-2006, said. (dic)(++++)
