rebes Prison warden Hernowo, 45, was involved in a fight recently with cell-phone shop owner Andry Wijoyo, 24, in Purwokerto, Banyumas regency, Central Java, over a cell-phone monopod used for taking selfies.

Monopods have become a must-have item for gadget users who use them to snap pictures of themselves. Monopods are known as tongsis '€” an abbreviation of tongkat narsis (narcissist stick).

Hernowo claimed the tongsis, which he bought for Rp 65,000 (US$5.50) from Andry around two weeks ago, was broken. He attempted to return it to Andry'€™s shop on Jl. KS Tubun in Purwokerto, demanding a new one. However, Andry refused to accept the claim on the grounds that Hernowo had already used the item for more than a week.

The two men were then involved in a quarrel that ensued in a fight. Hernowo subsequently reported Andry to the Banyumas Police on charges of physical abuse. Andry also reported Hernowo to the police on charges of committing unpleasant acts and vandalism at his shop.

'€œYes, we eventually [also] reported Hernowo to the police. Our client feels he was treated in a hostile manner and Hernowo threw and broke some items,'€ said Andry'€™s lawyer Taswin at the Banyumas Police station on Thursday.

Banyumas Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Murbani Budi Pitono promised he would process the case in accordance with existing laws.
