Comments on other issues: '€˜Govt to lower poverty rate by 6 percent'€™

The poverty-alleviation program carried out by the government is expected to lower the poverty rate by five to six percent by 2019, according to Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa.

Your comments:

I would think the basic requirements to not be in poverty are as follows: sufficient access to nourishing food, safe and sufficient accommodations, access to healthcare services and access to education. We can get frustrated by those extreme examples of billionaires living to excess with fancy boats and the rest.

It'€™s an ongoing disparity of uneven distribution of resources and opportunities, but there are ways we can help. Even small ways make a difference.

What is the official measurement of poverty? Is it something less than $2 a day in a world where the Koch Brothers of America are now worth around $100 billion?

Apparently, someone on $2.50 a day is not poor, despite the fact they will earn less in their lifetime than billionaire fat-cats earn in a minute while they are asleep.

Can you actually feed a family with nourishing food on $2 a day? I would like to see the menu they suggest the poor buy on this money and have a nutritionist have a look at how healthy it is. Also, what about when someone gets sick? Are they supposed to be able to pay medical fees and buy medicine on this magical $2 a day number? Does anyone in power really think about this stuff when they formulate policy? Somehow I doubt it.
