The Solo Science Center at the Solo Techno Park was inaugurated on Friday.

A center'€™s initiator, Sutarno, said the concept of the Solo Science Center was somewhat similar to Taman Pintar (smart park) in Yogyakarta. The Solo Science Center is a place where children can play and learn as it is equipped with a number of educational props.

'€œThe selection of model props is relevant to Surakarta city,'€ said Sutarno.

The project, done in cooperation with the Pusat Peragaan Iptek (Technology Model Center), Surakarta municipality and Sebelas Maret University, was initiated five years ago.

The Technology Model Center has also built similar science centers in Medan (North Sumatra), on Belitung island (Bangka-Belitung) and in Pontianak (West Kalimantan). It hopes to have established at least 15 science centers in the country by the end of next year.
