Three Bogor administration officials detained

T

he Bogor prosecutor'€™s office has placed three municipal administration officials in Paledong Penitentiary in the city for their alleged involvement in a graft case connected to the issuance of the Art Marriott Hotel'€™s building permit.

The three officials are suspected of accepting Rp 1.2 billion (US$98,384) in bribes. Former Bogor mayor Diani Budiarto is also suspected of having accepted a part of the bribe.

Bogor prosecutor'€™s special crimes section head Donny Haryono said that former head of Bogor Development Planning Board (Bappeda), Harry Sutjahjo, an official of the city administration'€™s environment conservation and rehabilitation sub-directorate of the Bogor Environmental Management Agency (BPLH), Setiyoso Subarkah, and an official from Bogor National and Political Unity Office (Kesbangpol), Toto Supriyadi, were detained Wednesday.

Donny explained this was to facilitate the investigation process. According to the suspects'€™ confessions, some of the bribe money was accepted by former Bogor mayor Diani Budiarto and former Bogor Legislative Council head Mufti Faoki, among others.

'€œWe have questioned 30 witnesses and confiscated hundreds of documents related to the hotel permit as evidence. This includes the land permit, building permit and several photos of the money and delivery receipt,'€ he said.

According to Donny, the bribery occurred in January when a businessman approached a civil servant at the Bogor administration to smoothen the process to obtain permits for the hotel building on Jl. Ahmad Yandi.

The Rp 1.2 billion cash was given to Bogor Bappeda, the Bogor Land Transportation Agency (DLLAJ), Bogor BPLH and the Integrated Licensing Service and Investment Agency (BPPTPM).

Separately, Bogor mayor Bima Arya said that the city administration respected the legal process and believed that Harry would not try to get rid of any evidence.

He also said that the allegations against his predecessor, Diani, had not yet been proven.
