he construction of a commuter-line network to and from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has commenced with the planting of a concrete pillar on a plot of land located in front of Building 632, a storage facility owned by airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II.
Yudis Tiawan from Angkasa Pura II said the construction project would be carried out entirely by PT Adhi Karya, a state-owned contractor. He said the construction would be completed in December 2015.
He added that the station would be equipped with platforms that could fit 2,000 passengers and numerous facilities like a public hall, tapping gates, waiting lounges and commercial areas.
The construction, however, has caused the airport operator to divert traffic by closing the only access route that connected the Tangerang area with the airport, which has been widely criticized by local residents.
Salahudin Rafi of Angkasa Pura II, however, said that the sacrifice would be worth it since the commuter-line construction was pivotal for the airport and the general public. Besides, he added, in return there would be a multiplying effect that would benefit local people.
He said that currently, anybody could see that construction of facilities like shopping malls, storage areas and hotels was mushrooming in areas near the airport. (dic)
