Actor Ernest Samudera'€™s interests evolve over time. That can be seen in his acting, where he went from playing an Islamic cleric in Sang Kiai (The Leader) to assuming a role as a marine police officer in 3 Nafas Likas (Likas'€™ Three Breaths).

After graduating with a business degree from a university in Malaysia, the 25-year-old decided to switch to law, returning home to attend law school in Jakarta. '€œI like new things,'€ he explained.

When it comes to his possessions, however, Ernest is a complete different person, preferring to fix old gadgets than to buy new ones. '€œIf they break, I just get them fixed. I won'€™t replace them just because there is a new, flashier version of a cell phone out, for instance.'€

i Phone 4S

I have had the phone for around three years now. It'€™s been battered, as I'€™ve dropped it several times, and I just got it fixed last week. I don'€™t want to get a new phone unless it is the exact model and make, which is no longer available on the market, or so I'€™m told.

It fits my hand and is very resilient. The available applications also support my activities, so I have no reason to replace it.

I love my gadgets so I always learn everything about them. I bought Apple'€™s phone work kit so I could replace the battery myself.

My other phone is a BlackBerry Bellagio, but it is currently broken and being fixed.

I have the most common social media applications on my phone and I like to play Coin Dozer to kill time.

I often get lost in the city, so I installed Waze and Google Maps on my phone.

Retro resurgence: Why Gen Z is falling for digicams and Walkmans

As everything turns AI and algorithmic, my generation is turning to digicams, cassette tapes and Walkmans in search of something real.

Fossil watch

The watch is the oldest thing I own. I'€™ve been wearing it since junior high school, some 12 years ago. The model is simple, but classic. I think it fits my personality.

Fujitsu laptop

It'€™s a 2007 model, has a Microsoft-based operation system and is user-friendly. Although I bring it with me all the time, I don'€™t use the laptop much and it still works well. For me, function is always more important than prestige.

If I ever have to replace it, though, I think I'€™ll get Apple'€™s Macbook Pro.
