Prosecutors seek 15 years for man over sexual abuse

P

rosecutors have demanded a Sukabumi District Court panel sentence 24-year-old Andri Sobari, alias Emon, to 15 years in prison over his alleged sexual abuse of dozens of children.

The prosecutors said they found no mental health issues that could prevent the defendant from receiving the sentence.

'€œWhat Emon has done has been verified by the testimonies of dozens of men during the hearing process and therefore clearly violates the Child Protection Law. We don'€™t see any reason to seek a lighter sentence,'€ prosecutor Sigit Hendardi told the court as quoted by kompas.com.

Besides, he added, during the hearing process Emon did not show any remorse. Emon, he added, was still able to smile and even laugh during the court proceedings.

In response, Emon'€™s lawyer M Soleh said he had prepared a defense statement for his client to counter the prosecution'€™s sentence request.

'€œI hope the panel [members] will be able to use their conscience when the time comes to issue the ruling,'€ he said.

He said Emon was ready to receive his punishment and had also asked for an opportunity to apologize to all his alleged victims and their families.

The police found at least 56 children who had been the alleged victims of Emon'€™s sexual abuse. Of that number, 28 of them were believed to have been sodomized while another 16 were sexually harassed and the rest were forced to watch the sexual abuse. (dic)(+++)
