aritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti is urging people to stop eating crab, lobster and their eggs due to drops in the populations of both crustacean types.

'€œWe must not continue to catch crabs and lobsters because their population keeps decreasing each year. I want people to stop eating crabs, lobsters and their eggs to help us protect the future of both crustaceans and the seafood industry,'€ Susi told The Jakarta Post recently.

She also warned that eating the crustaceans and their eggs was not good for cholesterol.

'€œIt'€™s dangerous for our cholesterol levels, so let us protect these two [types of] crustaceans. I believe we can have a sustainable crab and lobster industry if the demand for them decreases,'€ she said.

Susi met on Nov. 12 officials from the ministry'€™s quarantine offices nationwide to promote the policy and implement it in every region of the country.

She was optimistic that quarantine officials would help her to prevent crab and lobster fishing.
