unday must have been a slow news day, as your '€œBy the way'€ column by Bambang Widodo titled '€œUnbearable lightness '€” and pointlessness '€” of selfies'€ (The Jakarta Post, Nov. 23) was exceedingly pointless and irrelevant.

A selfie is simply a techno-update of looking in the mirror. Are you against mirrors as well? Does it upset cosmic dignity to have people peeping at themselves through digital memories? Would you outlaw traditional four-for-a-quarter photo booths as well?

You don'€™t want to get nailed for insulting the head of state now, do you? If you just take a peek to the right of your bawling column you will see the headline '€œJokowi steals spotlight'€¦'€ and in the first paragraph the shocking revelation that '€œPresident Joko '€˜Jokowi'€™ Widodo returned to Indonesia on Sunday after completing a short trip to Singapore, where he attended his son'€™s graduation ceremony, snapped selfies with his son'€™s college friends and had a courtesy-call meeting'€.
