oekarno-Hatta International Airport Police arrested a man, identified only by the initials MBR, and his wife, identified as N, for possession of crystal methamphetamines. About 1.03 grams of crystal meth, locally known as shabu-shabu, was confiscated.
Adj. Comr. Subekti of the airport police's narcotics division said MBR was arrested while transiting at Soekarno-Hatta from Medan. He said MBR and N were on their way to Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.
'Officials were suspicious about packages in his luggage that turned out to be crystal meth,' he said on Thursday.
MBR said that he was not aware that the packages contained crystal meth and said that he had just been instructed by a man identified as ABG to pick up the packages from a man identified as Y at a hotel in Medan in return for a job at a coal mine in Balikpapan.
As for N, she said that she was in the dark about her husband's activities as a drug courier.
Subekti said a team of police detectives had been deployed to pursue ABG.
Both MDR and N remain in police custody for further questioning. (dic)(+++)
