A violent mob in Tanjungrejo hamlet, Central Lampung regency, on Thursday evening burned at least 50 homes to the ground.
The incident is believed to have been retaliation for the disappearance of two youths from a neighboring hamlet, tribunnews.com reported on Friday.
The violence forced most residents to evacuate.
Led by Central Lampung Police chief Brig. Gen. Heru Winarko, hundreds of local police officers and several soldiers reportedly rushed to the scene to prevent the violence from spreading
