he Jakarta administration will cooperate with private developers to build several new sports stadiums for the 2018 Asian Games, which the city will host.
Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that the city would start construction of the new stadiums in 2015. One of these, he said, would be located in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
'The construction will be fully funded by private developers. We will rent the stadiums for the Asian Games,' Ahok said at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.
He said the city administration was currently coordinating with the central government to acquire the plots of land for the stadiums.
Aside from building stadiums, the city also has several other infrastructure projects, such as the first route for the mass rapid transit (MRT) system, the revitalization of Old Town in West Jakarta, construction of two of six toll roads and the expansion of the Transjakarta busway routes. (***)
