Thousands of rave music fans flocked to the JIExpo Kemayoran in Central Jakarta over the weekend ' dancing all night under the electric sky of the sixth edition of the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP).
In the wee hours of Saturday, the animated performance of Grammy-winning DJ Sonny John Moore, better known as Skrillex, on the Garudha Land main stage became the highlight of the day.
As the intro started, he jumped up to greet the crowd.
'Indonesia, are you ready to party?', which of course immediately generated loud screams from the floor.
He opened his set with 'Ease My Mind' and 'Recess', tracks which were taken from his latest album, Recess.
The 26-year-old American electronic dance music (EDM) producer got up again, asking the crowd to jump and dance harder as he played dozens of his own tracks and remixes.
Other big names who performed on Saturday included New World Punx, Steve Aoki, Above & Beyond, Matthew Koma, Blasterjaxx, DVBBS, Hogi Wirjono and Nicky Romero.
On Friday, partygoers had started to fill up the three floors of the nation's biggest electronic dance music festival from 5 p.m to watch the early performers, such as Midnight Quickie and Crème de la Crème.
As always, Crème de la Crème, which consists of the dynamic DJ Hizkia and DJ WW, succeeded in getting partygoers up and dancing to their performance.
Known for the unique blend of sounds that combine house music and R&B, they heated up the arena of the outdoor stage by performing remixes of Zedd's 'Clarity' and 'Stay The Night', among others.
In the outdoor arena, many looked for the best spots to dance near the stage, while others decided to make circles in small groups at the back, sipping drinks between dancing.
Later on at the Cosmic Station indoor stage, the cold air conditioning failed to cool the high fever in the crowd as Benzi and DJ Esentrik of TWRK performed crossbreeding tracks of EDM and hip-hop.
Playing their jam, 'Nolia', and the remix of Snoop Dogg's 'Drop It Like It's Hot', the crowd bobbed their elbows to the beat endlessly, and danced wilder when sexy dancers appeared on the stage to pump up the night.
After bouncing to TWRK's beats, Laidback Luke, who performed afterwards, kept the momentum going by taking over the stage with his loud and sharp future sounds.
'I'm a little bit worried because I play at the same time as Martin Garixx, and he's super popular,' he said earlier. 'I hope people will stay.'
People indeed stayed ' and more even came to see him playing 60 tracks for one-and-a-half hours.
'I never prepare [for performances]; I will look at the crowd and the atmosphere, even listen to the DJs who perform before me, and it always influences my live sets,' he said.
The Filipino-Dutch DJ and producer said that although it was not the first time he performed in Indonesia, he was amazed to see the crowd at his first DWP.
'It's incredible, and I'm so proud how dance music has grown in the past couple of years in Indonesia,' said Luke, who is also in town to work on a track with noted local DJ Angger Dimas.
And just as Luke said, the performance of Martin Garixx was among the highlights of the night, performing his remix of 'Don't Blame It on Me' by Calvin Harris feat. John Newman and 'Reload' by Sebastian Ingrosso, Tommy Trash and John Martin.
While partygoers danced hard on the floor, many others had to quit dancing to help their friends get treatment from paramedics at five medic tents around the venue.
One of the paramedics, Budi Yunanto of Mayapada Hospital, said that as of 12.30 a.m. on Saturday, most of those who checked in had alcohol-poisoning symptoms.
'We also treated one patient who allegedly overdosed but she was taken immediately to Mitra Kemayoran Hospital for further examination,' he said.
At the end of the day, 20-year-old Nabila Fitriani said she would go back to her hometown in Surabaya, East Java, as the happiest rave music fan ever as she had just been part of the biggest dance music festival. 'I could watch Steve Aoki, Steve Angello, Skrillex, Showtek, and even meet Laidback Luke in person at DWP. That's crazy!'
