There's an unusual ship undergoing sea trials off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine.
The angular vessel called the "Ghost" looks like a waterborne stealth fighter. It rides atop a pair of underwater tubes housing 2,000-horsepower gas turbine engines.
It's not a Navy vessel. But that's what Juliet Marine Systems wants it to be.
CEO Gregory Sancoff's company built the speedy boat with private money in the hope he can sell it to the U.S. Navy. He says it's the first time a process called "supercavitation" has been used to propel a surface vessel.
So far, the Navy has yet to give it an endorsement, and it could be a tough sale. The Navy says it doesn't currently have a requirement for such a patrol boat. (***)
