resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has said that he has instructed all relevant ministries, departments and stakeholders to search for missing AirAsia Indonesia flight QZ8501 since the very first day.
'I was in Wamena, in the middle of a mountainous area in Papua, when the aircraft was declared missing by the authorities on Sunday morning. I was shocked and I thought of the family and relatives of the passengers,' Jokowi told journalists at the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) headquarters in Central Jakarta on Monday.
'I then instructed the Basarnas chief to lead the search mission to find the missing aircraft and asked officials from the TNI [military], National Police, Transportation Ministry and every other related institution and stakeholder to assist the mission.'
He said, however, that the government had yet to hear any significant news from the search and rescue mission.
However, the government was committed to finding the plane and its passengers, he insisted.
'Neighboring countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and South Korea are helping us to locate the plane. We are hoping that the family and relatives will find the strength to cope with this ordeal; let us pray for the best,' he added.
In addition, he said that he had instructed Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan to review the country's airline safety procedures as well as review the condition of planes registered in Indonesia to enhance aviation safety.
'I want every department and stakeholder to support this mission. I hope that we can find the missing plane and its passengers,' he continued. (nfo)(++++)
