The police reported on Friday that a woman, whom her brother had claimed had been kidnapped when her car was stolen, had been found.
'She was not kidnapped, but she was taken by a debt collector along with her vehicle,' Adj. Sr. Comr. Herry Heryawan, head of the Jakarta Police violent crime sub-directorate, said, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Later on Saturday, West Jakarta Police arrested a man who allegedly had arranged the kidnapping in Batam, Riau Islands. West Jakarta crime unit head Adj. Sr. Comr. Putu Putera Sadana said the suspect was in West Jakarta police custody. He said the police were still investigating the case and pursuing other suspects.
Meanwhile, Kompas.com reported that the woman, Trisha Tan, 34, had denied that she was in debt. She said she had been mistaken for a woman named Lani.
Lucki Suherman, Trisha's brother, had sent out an amber alert on social media that read: 'A Nissan Grand Livina van was taken and there was a person in it.'
On Friday afternoon, Trisha had been driving her car with her assistant in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, when four men riding on two motorcycles stopped her, Lucki said on Friday. The men had banged on her car door and ordered her assistant to leave the car. Two of the men took the car with Trisha still inside it.
