T

hirty residents in East Jakarta faced misdemeanor trials in the East Jakarta District Court on Monday for littering. Each of them was ordered to pay a fine of Rp 32,000 (US$2.50).

East Jakarta head of sanitation unit Apul Silalahi said the residents were charged with violating Bylaw No.3/2013 on waste management that carried a total potential fine of up to Rp 500,000.

'€œHopefully this will be a shock therapy for the litterbugs, so that they will stop littering,'€ Apul said on Monday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

One of the residents, Pasar Rebo vendor Wira Hendra, said he learned his lesson and promised to stop doing the bad habit.
