hirty residents in East Jakarta faced misdemeanor trials in the East Jakarta District Court on Monday for littering. Each of them was ordered to pay a fine of Rp 32,000 (US$2.50).
East Jakarta head of sanitation unit Apul Silalahi said the residents were charged with violating Bylaw No.3/2013 on waste management that carried a total potential fine of up to Rp 500,000.
'Hopefully this will be a shock therapy for the litterbugs, so that they will stop littering,' Apul said on Monday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
One of the residents, Pasar Rebo vendor Wira Hendra, said he learned his lesson and promised to stop doing the bad habit.
