The country observed a peaceful Christmas on Thursday, which was marked by an unusually large number of Muslim government officials publicly sending '€œMerry Christmas'€ wishes to Christians nationwide, a move that many see as controversial in a country with the most Muslims in the world.

One of the high-profile officials who wished Christians a '€œMerry Christmas'€ was Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, who has been praised for his progressive stances on many issues, particularly on the rights of religious minorities.

Your comments:

It'€™s interesting to note that this deserves an article in the Post, like having any kind of holiday that involves Christians and Muslims in Indonesia is destined to have conflicts.

Well done Indonesia on a peaceful Christmas. Religion is very personal '€” it is always between the individual and God. There are many religions in the world '€” each preaching that their religion is the right way to heaven.

The preachers are the usual cause of fighting and unrest in the world. There is only one God but there are several different ways to reach him: Muslim, Christian, Hindu, etc. Indonesia has the world'€™s largest peaceful Muslim population. God bless Indonesia for showing the world how to live peacefully.

I wish to thank God for the religious minister'€™s Christmas greeting. Thank you Pak Lukman. God bless.
