T

he North Jakarta Middle School Education Office returned Rp 1.8 billion (US$144,000) of unspent funds from a total education operational aid budget of 112.4 billion disbursed in 2014.

The funds were dedicated to 17 senior high schools, eight vocational schools and two Islamic high schools in the municipality.

Office head Mustafa Kemal said on Thursday that the funds were returned because there was a difference between the data of students who were registered and the actual number of students.

'€œSome of the students have been registered when they were in junior high school but their names might be included again in senior high school,'€ he said, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Mustafa said there were also unspent funds for new photocopiers that were accidentally proposed and approved. He said some of the schools already had photocopiers, so they did not need new ones.
