tate-owned energy company PT Pertamina increased the price of the 12-kilogram 'Elpiji' LPG canister by Rp 1,500 (US$0.11) per kg on Friday, company spokesman Ali Mundakir said in a media statement
Ali explained that the move was part of an existing plan to adjust periodically the price of Elpiji toward market price in line with corporate business principles.
With Friday's adjustment, the price has increased from Rp 7,569 per kg to Rp 9,069 kg per kg, he added.
"Factoring in other components, such as transportation and filling costs, agents' margins and value added tax, the selling price at agents could reach up to Rp 11,225 per kg or Rp 134,700 for a 12-kg canister," Ali said in the statement received by The Jakarta Post on Saturday.
The hike was initially to take place in July 2016 but the recent drop in global crude oil prices affecting the price of CP Aramco has helped the company to accelerate its plans to raise the Elpiji price.
Ali added that the price would be adjusted periodically every three months in accordance with the global market price of LPG, meaning the price of the 12-kg Elpiji canister would fluctuate. (dyl/nvn)
