The figure that received most attention from analysts in the cabinet of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla was Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti.
Many people, including myself, doubted her ability to lead the ministry. Illegal fishing by foreign vessels has long occurred in Indonesian waters and never been resolved and this is a part of the ministry's job. (By Resi Adiyasa, Banten)
Your comments:
No way. Susi has not yet offered evidence that she is competent to tackle the problems that cripple maritime production in Indonesia. These problems are lack of regulations, lack of monitoring and lack of enforcement.
Despite the facts that the Indonesian fishing fleet is oversized ad the natural resources are overfished, Susi's only propositions have been to develop the fishing fleet and to increase exploitation, which will only worsen the existing problems.
She has also declared that sinking foreign vessels have already allowed the fish to return, which is not true.
