scar Desano, one of the victims of AirAsia flight QZ8501, which crashed into the waters of the Karimata Strait, was laid to rest in a cemetery in Krakitan, Bayat, Klaten, on Wednesday.
The body of the steward was taken to his hometown of Bayat shortly after it arrived at Adi Soemarmo International Airport, Surakarta, Central Java, on Wednesday morning.
Oscar is one of the two bodies of QZ8501 victims the East Java Police's Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team managed to identify on Tuesday. He was identified based on dental records and DNA links between him and his parents.
Relatives, neighbors, Klaten administration officials, AirAsia senior officials including executive chairman Datok Kamaruddin Meranu as well as Oscar's colleagues at the Malaysia-based airline attended his funeral at around 1 p.m. local time.
Oscar left a wife who is seven months pregnant with their first child. 'We will pay attention to all AirAsia crew members as we consider them as part of AirAsia's big family,' said Datok Kamaruddin.
Oscar was one of five AirAsia crew members killed in the crash on Dec.28.
Of the five crew members, the bodies of three have been recovered and identified. They are Khairunisa Haidar Fauzi from Palembang, South Sumatra, Oscar and his colleague Wismoyo Ari Pambudi who were both from Klaten. Wismoyo was buried in Klaten on Jan.5. (ebf)(++++)
