Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is making the leap into movie making, tapping a top producer and actor from Hong Kong for its first project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
At a press conference held on Sunday in Beijing's 751 arts district, arthouse director Wong Kar-wei said he would produce the film, titled Ferryman, and that heartthrob actor Tony Leung would star.
'The film is a combination of literature, movie and technology,' Wong, who directed Leung in The Grandmaster said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Wong said that popular author Zhang Jiajia would direct the film, to be adapted from his short stories.
Ferryman is slated for release later this year.
