Jokowi postpones appointment of Budi Gunawan as new police chief

P

resident Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo on Friday evening announced that he had postponed the decision to appoint Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan as the new National Police chief as he was being investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

'€œDue to his status [as a suspect], we need to postpone his appointment as the National Police chief,'€ Jokowi told the press in a conference at the State Palace.

Jokowi has transferred the duties of National Police chief Gen. Sutarman to his deputy, Comr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti.

'€œAs of now, all the duties of the National Police chief have been handed over to the deputy police chief,'€ Sutarman said.

Sutarman thanked the police for their support during his tenure as chief, and wished them the best of luck in the future. (dyl/nfo)(+++)
