he University of Indonesia (UI), located in Depok, West Java, will build three parking arcades on the outskirts of its campus in order to free the campus from motor vehicles, both motorcycles and cars.
'With these buildings, all students, lecturers or residents who come to UI must leave their vehicles in the building and travel around the campus area using the provided yellow buses or bicycles,' UI GreenMetric researcher Gunawan Tjahjono said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
The buildings will be located to the west, north and south of the campus, each with a capacity of 3,000 vehicles. Vehicles would be charged per hour to park in the facilities. Gunawan said that the plan was to reduce emissions from the vehicles and have a more environmentally friendly campus.
'We want to reduce emissions from vehicles traveling around campus. Moreover, many people who live in boarding houses near UI also park on campus,' Gunawan said. (***)
