PT LEN prepares to manufacture solar cells in Subang

S

tate-owned electronics maker PT LEN Industri was preparing to build a solar cell factory at the LEN Technopark in Subang regency, West Java, president director Abraham Mose said on Thursday.

"The board of directors met with Industry Minister Saleh Husin on Wednesday in Jakarta to prepare for the plan and requested the government's support," he said in Bandung, as reported by Antara news agency.

LEN Technopark, to be built in Subang, will host a solar cell production facility in response to high demand for solar cells.

Abraham said the factory had been proposed because the government had decided to build power plants driven by renewable energy with a 5,600 MW capacity in the next few years.

In addition to hosting a solar cell factory, LEN Technopark will also produce British-made Starstreak short-range air defense missiles in cooperation with giant defense electronics company Thales.

The production facility will also boast a monorail prototype being developed by LEN's Technology and Innovation Center.

"We will also open LEN Technopark to the public in the future, as a technology tourism destination, and as the base for an innovation club for both LEN employees and the public," said Abraham.

He also expected that opening up the technological facilities at LEN Technopark would accelerate the development of applicable technologies for industries in Indonesia. (nvn)(++++)
