L

aw and Human Rights Minister Yasona Laoly has inaugurated the self-styled king of dangdut Rhoma Irama as a member of a newly formed outfit tasked with collecting and managing royalties for musicians and music writers.

Also appointed to the new outfit, the Collective Management Body (LMKN), were musicians James Fredy Sundah, Adi Adrian of the pop group KLA Project and country singer Ebiet G. Ade.

'€œWe hope that with this agency, we can collect copyright payment from karaoke lounges, hotels, television stations and other entertainment venues,'€ Yasonna said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The government is set to make a serious effort to turn the intellectual property rights sector into a major contributor to the country'€™s gross domestic product (GDP) within the next five years.

The LKM was set up in hope of increasing the country'€™s GDP from the intellectual property rights sector to 6 percent from the current 2 percent. (***)
