The National Police's detective division arrested Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) commissioner Bambang Widjojanto on Friday morning in Depok, West Java.
Spokesman Insp. Gen. Ronny F. Sompie told reporters that Bambang was arrested for allegedly asking several witnesses to perjure themselves at the Constitutional Court in 2010.
"The case has to do with the regional elections in Waringin Barat in Central Kalimantan," he said at the National Police headquarters on Friday.
Ronny said that Bambang was arrested by 15 police offers led by Brig. Gen. Victor.
Ronny explained that the arrest was made based on a police report filed by a member of the public on Jan. 15.
Bambang is alleged to have violated Article 242 in conjunction with Article 55, on presenting false testimony, of the Criminal Code. He could face a maximum seven-year prison sentence if found guilty.
Currently, Bambang is being questioned by investigators from the detective division. (nfo)
