he National Police confirmed on Friday that deputy chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Bambang Widjojanto was arrested for instructing witnesses to commit perjury at the Constitutional Court in 2010.
National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Ronny Sompie said in a press conference here on Friday that Bambang was arrested for instructing witnesses to give false testimony at the Constitutional Court during a trial centering on the West Kotawaringin regent election conflict in 2010.
At that time, Bambang acted as a lawyer for a regent candidate contending the local election.
Ronny said Bambang was arrested after he was declared a suspect in the case and that he would be indicted for his role.
He said the police began investigating the case after receiving a report from a member of the public on Jan. 15.
The Detective Corps then formed an investigative team to follow up on the report.
'The police have more than enough evidence from the informant and witnesses to carry on with the case,' he said.
Bambang was arrested while taking his son to school in Depok on Friday morning, after which he underwent questioning at the Detective Corps building of the National Police headquarters. (rms)
