The University of Indonesia (UI), located in Depok, West Java, will build three parking arcades on the outskirts of its campus in order to free the campus from motor vehicles, both motorcycles and cars.
'With these buildings, all students, lecturers or residents who come to UI must leave their vehicles in the building and travel around the campus area using the provided yellow buses or bicycles,' UI GreenMetric researcher Gunawan Tjahjono said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
Your comments:
What about the majority of students and faculty members who use public transportation to get to campus?
Instead of providing 9,000 parking spaces in a 225,000 square-meter building approximately worth
Rp 900 billion, let the wealthy students use improved commuter lines or park their cars in the underutilized parking spaces in shopping malls.
Use the money to construct pedestrian-friendly areas and facilities that connect the campus to train stations and Jl. Margonda. It is much healthier to walk as opposed to riding yellow buses. Stop accommodating cars through development.
