ice President Jusuf Kalla departed to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday to convey Indonesia's condolences for King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz who died on Friday, according to vice presidential spokesman Husein Abdullah.
"The Vice President will also attend the inauguration of Crown Prince Salman as the new king of Saudi Arabia," Husein said as quoted by Antara news agency.
He added that the Vice President, accompanied by his wife Mufidah Kalla, and a number of government officials, left Halim Perdanakusuma Military Air Base at 8.50 a.m. local time on board the presidential aircraft BBJ-2.
Husein said the Vice President's departure was on the orders of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, who sent Kalla to represent the government and the Indonesian people.
He also pointed out that the visit was important in view of the good bilateral ties between the two countries, and particularly because Indonesia sent around 250,000 haj pilgrims to the Holy Land annually and around 3,000 migrant workers monthly to work in Saudi Arabia. (rms)
