S

tate electricity firm PT PLN is preparing for the development of power plants which will be stationed on 47 outer and remote islands in the archipelago by year-end.

'€œFor this year, we will supply electricity to 47 outer and remote islands. The government has set a target to complete the project by this year'€™s end,'€ PLN construction and renewable energy director Nasri Sebayang said as quoted by Antara news agency in Tanjunguban, Bintan, on Wednesday.

According to Nasri, the firm has commenced the bidding process.

'€œWe'€™ve prepared some locations for the plants and we'€™ve completed most of the requirements,'€ he said, adding that the project would cost Rp 1.2 trillion (US$95.92 million).

The capacity of the plants will vary according to the population on the respective island that each plant caters for, Nasri explained. (***)
