Students demand clarification on land status

D

ozens of activists and students staged a rally in the Alam Sutera housing complex on Jl. Raya Serpong in Banten, on Wednesday, accusing the property developer of illegally taking the South Tangerang administration'€™s land.

The protesters demanded that the administration and city council explain the legal status of the land and provide information to the public on the compensation paid in exchange for the 9,500 square-meter plot of land.

'€œWe want the administration and legislative council to summons the property developer to clarify the situation. If the land is [legally] owned by Alam Sutera, the public has the right to know the amount of compensation the administration got from the transaction,'€ Agus Muslim, the protest coordinator, said.

Meanwhile, Alam Sutera'€™s land division head, Emil Syarif, said the land dispute was settled a long time ago and stated the company was the legitimate owner of the land.

'€œWe are ready to reveal the documents to prove our validity as the land owner,'€ Emil said, adding that he suspected the rally was masterminded by individuals with an agenda. (***)
