s many as 350 West Jakarta Police personnel underwent drug tests on Wednesday following the recent arrest of a police officer who was named a suspect in a drug-abuse case.
West Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Fadil Imran said Wednesday that any officer found to have used drugs would be rehabilitated.
'All personnel had to give a urine sample, even me,' Fadil said as quoted by tempo.co, adding that he would also dismiss any officer who was proven guilty of distributing drugs.
West Jakarta is considered one of the capital's hot spots for drug abuse. On Jan. 16, the Jakarta Police arrested chief Brig. Sudirman, a member of the West Jakarta Police's narcotics unit, in a hotel parking lot in West Jakarta. Some 9,700 ecstasy pills and more than 800 grams of methamphetamine were confiscated in the arrest.
In September 2014, rather than taking punitive measures, the Jakarta Police rehabilitated 34 West Jakarta Police officers proven to have used methamphetamine. (***)
