T

he Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Police and Aviation Security have arrested a man suspected of stealing passengers'€™ valuables inside an airport terminal.

'€œThe culprit entered the terminal area, pretending to be a passenger and stealing valuables of negligent passengers by moving the bags,'€ airport police crime unit chief Comr. Azhari said on Monday.

'€œWe received a report from [alleged victim] RH and his wife, who lost two smartphones in the El John Lounge in December,'€ he added.

The suspect, identified as Hamzah, 39, a resident of Kramat Pulo, Central Jakarta, was arrested over the weekend at the lounge in the airport'€™s Terminal 1B, based on CCTV footage. Another suspect identified as JHN remains at large.

Hamzah, who was released from jail in early January after serving a 10-month sentence for the same crime, admitted he had stolen passengers'€™ valuables at Soekarno-Hatta airport and Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.

The police confiscated a Galaxy Note II, an iPhone, a BlackBerry smartphone, a laptop and cash totalling Rp 100,000 (US$7) as evidence. (***)
