he Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Police and Aviation Security have arrested a man suspected of stealing passengers' valuables inside an airport terminal.
'The culprit entered the terminal area, pretending to be a passenger and stealing valuables of negligent passengers by moving the bags,' airport police crime unit chief Comr. Azhari said on Monday.
'We received a report from [alleged victim] RH and his wife, who lost two smartphones in the El John Lounge in December,' he added.
The suspect, identified as Hamzah, 39, a resident of Kramat Pulo, Central Jakarta, was arrested over the weekend at the lounge in the airport's Terminal 1B, based on CCTV footage. Another suspect identified as JHN remains at large.
Hamzah, who was released from jail in early January after serving a 10-month sentence for the same crime, admitted he had stolen passengers' valuables at Soekarno-Hatta airport and Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.
The police confiscated a Galaxy Note II, an iPhone, a BlackBerry smartphone, a laptop and cash totalling Rp 100,000 (US$7) as evidence. (***)
