ocal cell phone brand Nexian launched its first Android Lollipop 5.1 smartphone, the Journey One, on Wednesday, marking two firsts for the company.
The Journey One is the first smartphone launched in Indonesia to run on the latest iteration of the popular Android operating system, under the Android One package, as well as the first smartphone to be sold exclusively online in cooperation with two online stores.
Priced at Rp 999,000 (US$79), all phone users will experience the advantages of Lollipop 5.1, claimed to be the fastest version of Android OS with four times better performance than older versions and equipped battery saving features.
The smartphone is powered by a 1.3 gigahertz MediaTek quad-core processor with 1 gigabyte (GB) of RAM and 8 GB of ROM. It also comes with an 8 GB microSD memory card, allowing users to store files conveniently.
David Kartono, CEO of Selular Group, which owns the Nexian brand, said the Journey One would only be available through blanja.com and jakartanotebook.com, while other Nexian models would still be available through traditional retailers.
David refused to reveal the company's sales target but did say 'we want to sell the first batch in a week.'
The first 1,000 people to purchase the phone will also get online shopping vouchers to be used at tokopedia.com and traveloka.com valued at Rp 50,000 each and an Rp 100,000 voucher to shop at jakartanotebook.com.
The Android One smartphone, which supports dual micro SIM cards, is offered with a bundling package from Telkomsel, in which the first 5,000 units will get 4.5 GB worth of free data for the first month. (***)
