he Home Ministry has issued an instruction applying to all government officials stipulating that they may only refer to President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo in official state functions using an official form prepared by the ministry.
In the circular, dated Jan. 20, the ministry said that Jokowi should be referred as 'the honorable President of Indonesia Bapak Jokowi'.
The decision was made after Jokowi held a meeting with all regents in the country in late January at the Bogor Palace.
'The official reference should be used in official state functions, working visits to provinces, municipalities and regencies,' the circular states.
The document was signed by the Home Ministry's secretary general, Yuswandi A. Temenggung.
This is the first time a president has issued an order as to how he should be referred at official functions.
Earlier, Jokowi told the media that he wanted only to be called 'Jokowi' a name given to him by a French national who did business with him while he was a furniture seller in Surakarta, Central Java.
