Cessna 172 training plane, owned by the Flybest Flight Academy in Batam, Riau Islands, made a hard landing at the Hang Nadim International Airport on Tuesday that broke its front wheel axle in the middle of the runway.
The Hang Nadim Airport Authority closed the airport at 10:20 a.m. and diverted a number of incoming flights to the Sultan Syarif Kasim Airport in Pekanbaru, Riau.
Hang Nadim Airport acting head Suwarso told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday that the training plane was piloted by an instructor from the Flybest Flight Academy. The plane landed hard on the runway and broke its front wheel axle.
'The pilot, who was the only person on board the plane, suffered slight injuries. The plane is currently being towed out of the runway. 'We closed the airport from 10:20 a.m. until now. The airport would likely be reopened in the next hour,' said Suwarso.
He added the firefighting team from the airport responded quickly by spraying foam on the plane as a precaution measure. (***)
